  1. As a student, I am familiar with Microsoft Word. Microsoft Word was the first word processing software I was introduced to in elementary school. At my elementary school, it was required for students to attend a computer lab every week. This is where I first started learning how to use computers, along with Microsoft Word. Although I am familiar with this word processing software, I prefer to use Google Documents. I prefer to use Google Docs because it automatically saves the document, so I do not have to worry about losing any of my work. In addition, Google Docs is connected to all things I have with Google, ultimately everything in one place. For example, my Gmail, my Google Drive, Maps, and more.

  2. After reviewing the ISTE Standards, I found that the most meaningful standard to me is being a leader. Being a leader means to set an example and be a good role model for students. An important part about being a leader is advocating for equal opportunity and adjusting for your student’s different learning needs. Student’s between k-12 are still very young and in the middle of growing up. They still have so much to learn about themselves and so much to learn in general. Therefore, I feel it is very important they have at least one good role model to look up to.

  3. I agree with the label of “digital native” for today's youth. Many young people are growing up with technology and it is all they know. Elementary schools in my area are now giving students iPads for school and using smartphones and Smartboards in the classroom. A digital native as someone who has grown up using and being knowledgeable about technology. I have noticed that sometimes my teachers struggle to use some of the new technology they have to work with and often ask students for help, and most of the time the student knows what to do. I feel in the future I will be more knowledgeable about technology because I am growing up during a time where it is popular. I am constantly learning and being introduced to new materials and I feel that will continue as society progresses and as technology advances in education.

  4. Badges are an award you get for doing or completing something. I have earned badges before. On my Fitbit I get a badge for taking a certain number of steps. I do not typically share this badge because it is a personal goal for myself but sometimes I will mention it. Overall, I feel getting a badge is always exciting no matter how big or little the accomplishment is.
